1. Wear clothing that is comfortable. We recommend wearing clothing that is easy to change in and out of.

2. Avoid wearing your make-up. Or don't. Either way your esthetician will cleanse your skin as part of any of our facial treatments.

3. Skip any strong at-home facial treatments the week before your appointment and any exfoliation treatments a few days prior. Our specialist will be providing this crucial step as part of your facial treatment.

4. Stay out of the sun and away from tanning for five days before your facial.

5. Know the names of the skin care products you are using at home. Bring a list if you need to so you can discuss it with our specialist. Having these details will help us make recommendations products you may want to add or delete from your at-home routine.

6. Let our specialist know any medications, medical conditions, and/or past skin conditions you may have had. Even over-the-counter medications can affect your skin, so it is good for us to know what may be contributing to your concerns and the way your skin reacts to certain products.

Are you getting your skin ready for a big event? If you've never had a facial before and don't know how your skin will respond, we recommend scheduling an appointment about six weeks in advance with a follow-up appointment closer to your event date. This way you have time to address any negative skin reactions and get the maximum results from your service. Don't have that much time? That's okay. Our experienced staff can recommend a service that will help you put your best face forward.

Right after a facial and on the next day after a facial:

1. Avoid picking at your skin.

True, you really should try to avoid this all the time, but your skin is especially sensitive after a facial. Though it’s tempting to pop every tiny blackhead or whitehead that rears its ugly face on yours, keep your hands off if you want beautiful skin.

2. Skip the heavy makeup and skin-care products.

Because your facial provides such a deep cleanse, it’s smart to give your skin a break from makeup and heavy products for a day or so, because your pores are more open than normal and therefore susceptible to more bacteria. Taking a break from makeup will also allow the serums, creams, or peels that were used to be more effective.

3. Use gentle facial cleanser and warm water.

4. Do not recommend applying toners the skin for a day or two after a facial, especially if they are alcohol-based or contain exfoliating or astringent ingredients.

5. Avoid sauna/pool/workout

6. Avoid tanning or intense sun exposure because the skin is still very sensitive.

Our aesthetician will give you the green light for hair removal procedures on your face depending on how intensely you were exfoliated during your facial, but a good rule of thumb is to wait at least a week. Waxing especially exfoliates the skin, and over-exfoliation will make it more likely that the wax will lift the skin and leave you with an ugly scab instead of beautifully groomed brows.

When it comes to post-facial care it’s best not to overdo it on products, and this is especially true when it comes to harsh, potentially irritating products. This includes acne solutions that contains retinols or acne peels and acne cleansers and toners with salicylic acid. These products can turn that fresh post-facial radiance into redness.

It’s also best to avoid most over the counter face masks. Many face masks designed to brighten, exfoliate, or treat acne may cause inflammation to skin that is sensitive from a facial. The ingredients in these treatments can irritate already sensitive skin. One exception to this rule is hydrating masks that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid.
